The stars talk

about the show

Candace, Brooke, Lindsay, Kim and Andrew took some time out to speak about the show. Here's some great insights into what they think.

Brooke Shields on the Lipstick Jungle girls: “I think these women are showing us - the women of Lipstick are saying to us that it’s okay to be successful and it’s also okay to be happy with your success even though it might not be easy”. Candace Bushnell on the viewers: “I think that female viewers love these shows and the response that I’ve gotten from women on the show, Lipstick Jungle, so far has just been overwhelmingly positive.” Candace Bushnell on the characters: “The tone and how the characters are portrayed is something that we’ve worked very hard on and I’ve actually been working on the show for two and a half years.” Brooke Shields on the woman’s lives: “I think that these women - I know my character - we all struggle. I’m not saying any successful woman’s life is without struggle. But it doesn’t mean it has to be miserable.” Brooke Shields on Lindsay and Kim: “I’m so lucky that I actually love these women because it’s nice to go to work every day. And, you know, there’s - you don’t have the feeling that they’re not looking out for you, you know, that you have to - so that’s just been a good working environment.” Kim Raver on Lindsay & Brooke: “There’s that stereotype that, you know, cat fights and women tear each other down. And I think we’re such different sort of characters and playing different characters that there’s a real support of one another and in our successes.” Brooke Shields on the show’s clothes: “I am infatuated with the clothes on the show. I would love to pretend that I really lived like that. It comes very naturally to these characters and I need a bit more help. I think that the minute I sort of don certain costumes, I shouldn’t say, but wardrobe that Wendy gets to wear, there is a sense of power in it and a sense of strength.” Candace Bushnell on the show: “One thing that I absolutely love about our show is I think there’s a real truth there. I think there’s a poignancy and I think there’s a reality to the show. And we’ve worked very, very hard on the tone of the show in making sure that it’s not too broad.” Kim Raver on the show: “These women are going through things and working through them, and working through them together. And hopefully, that’s the journey that people will tune into” Lindsay Price on the show: “It’s great fun because the fashion world, everyone, you know, says its so cliché how backstabbing and nasty it is, and the fur is always flying. But it does make for some interesting drama and storylines. We’re not going to go quite that far with it, but it’s a realistic thing that could happen to Victory.” Andrew McCarthy on Joe: “The character, I thought, was just somebody I don’t see very often on television played the way I would want to play him. You often see these rich, powerful guys as sort of sharks.” Kim Raver on Nico “For me, with Nico I love that she’s not afraid to speak her mind. She’s unedited and she doesn’t apologize for who she is, which I think that’s, you know, a main key in who she is.” Andrew McCarthy on Joe “I just thought of him more as a man with a real sense of delight in the world, and enjoys the aspect of, you know, today is better than yesterday. Tomorrow will be better than today.” Lindsay Price on Victory and Joe: “Joe and Victory are great for each other in so many ways, but they certainly have their obstacles to overcome.” Lindsay Price on Victory: “I think the thing I like the most about Victory is that she is successful in the business world but she doesn’t make any apologies for wearing her heart on her sleeve or being an emotional person, or maybe sometimes not being the most censored or reserved with what she has to say.” “I think he’s just direct, you know, and follows his own sort of agendas without being encumbered by anything that society would put on him because that’s what money does. It buys us freedom from having those constraints.” Candace Bushnell about her inspiration for the show: “I think one of the things that’s very important to understand about Lipstick Jungle is that the show - the book, and the whole concept was really inspired by real women and a new paradigm of a career woman, and a working woman.”
